Description

Mahr 1086 RI Digital Indicator

The Mahr MarCator 1086 Ri is the Integrated Wireless version of Mahr's established 1086 R digital indicator platform which is purpose-built for production gaging environments, SPC data collection stations, and multi-instrument measurement networks where output cables create interference, wear hazards, fixturing conflicts, or operator workflow restrictions. The defining difference between the 1086 Ri and the standard 1086 R is straightforward: the radio transmitter is embedded directly inside the indicator housing, with no external transmitter module, no adapter clip, and no additional battery required for wireless operation. The indicator measures, displays, and transmits in a single body at the same size, weight, and mounting footprint as its cabled counterpart.

The wireless system uses ANT+ protocol, communicating with the Mahr i-Stick USB receiver (order no. 4102220, sold separately) that plugs directly into a PC's USB port. A single i-Stick receiver manages up to eight 1086 Ri indicators simultaneously, eliminating the multi-channel interface boxes, serial concentrators, and powered USB hubs that conventional wireless gaging systems require. Measured values transmit to any Windows application including MS Excel and SPC software exactly as they would from a wired data cable: the operator presses the DATA button, the reading appears in the active application field at the cursor position. The display confirms whether the transmission was successful and whether the indicator is within receiving range of the i-Stick, providing real-time feedback at the gage rather than requiring the operator to look back at the PC screen to verify data capture.

Available in four measuring spans from 12.5mm (0.5"), 25mm (1"), 50mm (2"), and 100mm (4"), the 1086 Ri carries the same full feature set as the 1086 R: selectable resolution in five steps from 0.0005mm to 0.01mm (0.00002" to 0.0005"), Reference System zero retention through power cycles, 280°-rotating lockable bezel, 11mm high-contrast LCD, hardened stainless steel spindle and 8mm shank, complete tolerance GO/NO GO display mode, PRESET numerical entry, ABS zero-without-losing-reference, configurable LOCK for individual key protection, and adjustable measurement factor for lever ratio compensation. MarConnect cabled output (Digimatic, Opto RS-232C, USB) remains available on every 1086 Ri via connection cable even with Integrated Wireless active, allowing the same indicator to serve both wireless networked stations and cabled bench setups.

Battery life is approximately three years under normal production use when Integrated Wireless is deactivated. The Reference System's extremely low standby power draw being the primary contributor to this figure. With Integrated Wireless activated for continuous transmission, battery life is reduced, but the CR 2450 coin cell is a standard, widely available type that can be replaced without tools. MarCom Professional software (free download at mahr.com) provides full PC-based remote control, configuration, key locking setup, and data capture management for both wireless and USB/RS-232 connected 1086 Ri units.

Key Features

  • Integrated ANT+ Wireless Transmitter - The radio transmitter is embedded inside the 1086 Ri housing, requiring no external clip-on transmitter module, no additional battery for the wireless system, and no increase in body size or mounting footprint over the standard 1086 R; the ANT+ protocol delivers secure, confirmed data transmission to the Mahr i-Stick USB receiver, and the indicator's display confirms transmission success and receiver proximity range status directly at the gage eliminating the need to monitor the receiving PC to verify each data capture event.
  • One i-Stick USB Receiver Manages Up to 8 Indicators - The Mahr i-Stick receiver (order no. 4102220) plugs into a single PC USB port and communicates with up to eight 1086 Ri indicators simultaneously, replacing the multi-channel interface boxes, serial concentrators, and powered hubs that conventional wireless gaging systems require; measured values transmit directly into any active Windows application such as MS Excel, SPC software, quality databases at the cursor position, exactly as a wired data cable would deliver them, with no special drivers or middleware required for basic data entry.
  • Store Zero Once, Measure Immediately Across Power Cycles - The Reference System stores the established zero position and retains it through power-off cycles, spindle retractions, and indicator relocations so every time the 1086 Ri is switched on or the spindle re-engaged, measurement begins immediately from the stored reference without re-mastering; in multi-station wireless gaging networks where indicators may be powered down between batches, this eliminates zero-reset time and master-rechecking from every job startup sequence, compounding cycle-time savings across every indicator in the network.
  • Five Steps from 0.0005mm to 0.01mm on a Single Indicator - Resolution switches between 0.0005mm, 0.001mm, 0.002mm, 0.005mm, and 0.01mm (0.00002" through 0.0005") without recalibration, allowing the same 1086 Ri to serve both fine comparative measurement and broader incoming inspection applications from one indicator body; fixed-resolution 0.01mm / 0.0005" variants (4337134, 4337135) are also available for standardized production environments where operator-selectable resolution is a quality system control point.
  • Full MarConnect Output Retained - Cabled output via Digimatic, Opto RS-232C, and USB (MarConnect) remains hardware-active on every 1086 Ri regardless of wireless operation mode, allowing the same indicator to connect to both wireless i-Stick networks and existing cabled SPC collection systems without modification; this backwards compatibility protects the investment in 1086 Ri indicators against future changes in data collection infrastructure, and allows mixed wired/wireless configurations within the same measuring station or gaging fixture.
  • 280° Rotating Bezel, Hardened Stainless Steel Construction, and IP42 Protection - The operating and display unit rotates through 280° and locks at any angle for unobstructed display visibility in any mounting orientation; both the measuring spindle and 8mm mounting shank are hardened stainless steel for wear and corrosion resistance under production cycling loads; the lifter protection cap shields the spindle contact end from chip intrusion; IP42 rating addresses particulate and drip ingress in controlled production environments; and the approximately 3-year battery life (wireless deactivated) eliminates frequent battery-change overhead in always-on multi-indicator gaging stations.
