Description

Phase2+ 900-355A Brinell Hardness Tester w/ Load Cell Technology

The Phase2+ 900-355A is a newly designed digital Brinell hardness tester built around closed-loop load cell technology - a significant advancement over conventional dead weight and open-loop systems. The test load is applied via a closed-loop control unit with a load cell, a DC motor, and an electronic measurement and control unit, delivering a level of force accuracy and repeatability that traditional mechanical systems simply cannot match.

The result is highly accurate Brinell hardness measurements at all test loads up to 0.5% accuracy, with the common load overshoot or undershoot associated with dead weight or open-loop systems fully eliminated. The absence of mechanical weights not only removes friction problems but also makes the equipment less sensitive to misalignments caused by vibrations and reduces the overall instrument weight by approximately 50% compared to traditional dead weight Brinell testers.

The 900-355A is primarily used for Brinell hardness determination of metallic materials including cast iron, steel profiles, nonferrous metals, and soft alloys, and can also be used for testing hard plastics, bakelite, and other nonmetallic materials. It is suitable for use in factories, workshops, laboratories, universities, and research institutes. Ten selectable test forces ranging from 62.5 kgf to 3,000 kgf, combined with a fully automatic test cycle and a built-in 20X lighted optical microscope, make the 900-355A one of the most complete and versatile Brinell hardness testing solutions available at its price point. The instrument conforms to both ASTM E-10 and ISO 6506.

Key Features

  • Closed-Loop Load Cell Technology for ±0.5% Force Accuracy - Unlike traditional dead weight or open-loop systems, the 900-355A uses a load cell, DC motor, and electronic control unit in a closed-loop configuration that actively monitors and corrects the applied force eliminating overshoot, undershoot, and friction-related errors for consistently accurate indentation at every load level.
  • 10 Selectable Test Forces Up to 3,000 kgf - Covers 62.5, 100, 125, 187.5, 250, 500, 750, 1,000, 1,500, and 3,000 kgf test forces with a measuring range of 8–650 HBW, accommodating the full spectrum of Brinell testing applications from soft alloys and nonferrous metals to hard steel and cast iron.
  • Fully Automatic Test Cycle with Selectable Dwell Time - Load application, holding, and unloading are performed fully automatically with dwell times adjustable from 2 to 99 seconds, eliminating operator influence and significantly improving test-to-test reproducibility across long inspection runs.
  • Built-In 20X Lighted Optical Microscope - An integrated 20X optical microscope with illumination and 0.005 mm resolution allows direct measurement of the Brinell indentation diameter on the instrument, with a built-in Brinell Hardness Calculator (BHC) for fast, convenient hardness value determination without manual lookup tables.
  • Touch Screen with Multi-Scale Hardness Conversion - A large LCD touch screen displays indenter type, test load, dwell time, and F/D² ratio guidance for material and hardness range selection, with on-screen conversion to Rockwell, Vickers, and other popular hardness scales.
  • ASTM E-10 & ISO 6506 Compliant - 50% Lighter Than Dead Weight Testers - Conforms to both ASTM E-10 and ISO 6506 standards, and at approximately half the weight of equivalent dead weight Brinell testers, is easier to install and relocate while maintaining full compliance for laboratory, QC, and production floor environments.
