Description

Phase2+ 900-356A Tall Frame Digital Brinell Hardness Tester

The Phase2+ 900-356A is the tall frame version of Phase2+'s advanced closed-loop Brinell hardness testing platform, purpose-built for large, heavy, or oversized workpieces that exceed the vertical clearance of standard Brinell testers. The large measurable height allows operators to test larger parts, while the lightweight design approximately 50% less than traditional dead weight type testers makes for more flexible placement on the shop floor or in the laboratory.

The 900-356A incorporates the latest load cell technology, with the test load applied via a closed-loop control unit with a load cell, a DC motor, and an electronic measurement and control unit. The result is highly accurate Brinell hardness measurements at all test loads up to 0.5% accuracy. The common load overshoot or undershoot associated with traditional dead weight or open-loop systems is eliminated, and the absence of mechanical weights not only removes friction problems but also makes the equipment less sensitive to misalignments caused by vibrations.

With a measuring range of 3.18–658 HBW slightly wider than the standard 900-355A and ten selectable test forces from 62.5 kgf to 3,000 kgf, the 900-356A handles the full spectrum of Brinell applications across metallic and nonmetallic materials. A fully automatic test cycle covering load application, dwell, and unloading is performed completely automatically, greatly improving reproducibility since operator influence is eliminated. An integrated 20X optical microscope with a built-in Brinell Hardness Calculator (BHC) completes the package for a self-contained, efficient testing workflow.

Key Features

  • Tall Frame Design for Large Part Testing - An extended vertical capacity of up to 450 mm (with small anvil) and a maximum measurable depth of 200 mm accommodates large castings, forgings, structural profiles, and other oversized components that cannot be tested on a standard-frame Brinell tester.
  • Closed-Loop Load Cell Technology for ±0.5% Force Accuracy - A load cell, DC motor, and electronic control unit work together in a closed-loop configuration to actively monitor and correct applied force in real time — eliminating the overshoot, undershoot, and friction errors inherent to conventional dead weight and open-loop Brinell systems.
  • 10 Selectable Test Forces Up to 3,000 kgf - Covers 62.5, 100, 125, 187.5, 250, 500, 750, 1,000, 1,500, and 3,000 kgf, with a measuring range of 3.18–658 HBW, to handle the complete range of Brinell testing applications from soft alloys to the hardest steels and cast irons.
  • Fully Automatic Test Cycle with Selectable Dwell Time - Load application, holding, and unloading are performed fully automatically with dwell times adjustable from 2 to 99 seconds, storing operator-defined settings and eliminating test-to-test variability across long inspection runs.
  • Built-In 20X Lighted Optical Microscope with BHC - An integrated 20X optical microscope with 0.005 mm resolution enables direct indentation diameter measurement on the instrument, and the built-in Brinell Hardness Calculator (BHC) converts diameter readings to HBW values quickly and conveniently without external tables or software.
  • On-Screen F/D² Ratio Guidance & Scale Conversion - The large LCD screen displays indenter type, test load, and dwell time, and provides material-specific guidance for selecting the correct 0.102F/D² ratio with on-screen conversion to Rockwell, Vickers, and other popular hardness scales for complete, documented results.
