Phase2+ UTG-2900 Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge wThru Coating
The Phase2+ UTG-2900 is a state-of-the-art, handheld ultrasonic thickness gauge that delivers high-end measurement performance at a practical price point. This multi-functional instrument offers everything from basic measurement and thru-coating capabilities to scanning mode, adjustable sound velocity, extended memory, and USB data output making it one of the most capable portable gauges in its class.
Designed to measure the thickness of metallic and non-metallic materials including steel, aluminum, titanium, plastics, ceramics, and glass, the UTG-2900 works on any good ultrasonic wave conductor with parallel top and bottom surfaces. Its dual-mode operation, Pulse-Echo and Echo-Echo gives operators the flexibility to handle both standard and coated applications with a single instrument.
The standout capability of the UTG-2900 is its thru-coating measurement mode. This gauge can measure up to 90mm (3.5") of steel while reading through up to 900 microns (0.035" / 35 mils) of coating, eliminating the need to strip paint or protective coatings before inspection. The gauge accurately displays readings in either inches or millimeters after a simple calibration to a known thickness or sound velocity, and runs on standard AA batteries for up to 100 hours of continuous use, making it an ideal tool for field inspections, maintenance, and quality control environments.
Key Features
-
Thru-Coating Measurement Without Stripping - Reads substrate thickness through up to 35 mils (900 microns) of paint or protective coating, saving time and preserving surface integrity on coated parts and structures.
-
Dual-Mode Operation: Pulse-Echo & Echo-Echo - Pulse-Echo mode covers 0.025"–23.0" in steel for standard measurements; Echo-Echo mode handles 0.118"–3.50" for coated surfaces, giving operators the right method for every application.
-
Wide Material Compatibility - Accurately measures steel, aluminum, titanium, copper, brass, plastics, ceramics, glass, and any other material that conducts ultrasonic waves with parallel top and bottom surfaces.
-
Adjustable Sound Velocity (1,000–9,999 m/s) - User-configurable sound velocity range accommodates a broad spectrum of materials, allowing quick recalibration when switching between different substrates in the field.
-
Extended Memory with USB Output - Stores up to 2,000 readings organized across 20 groups of 100 files each, with USB connectivity for direct data transfer to PC software for reporting, trending, and traceability documentation.
-
100-Hour Battery Life on Standard AA Batteries - Runs approximately 100 hours on two AA alkaline batteries (backlight off), making it reliable for extended field operations without the need for proprietary charging equipment.
