The collection covers a broad spectrum of professional gauging instruments across multiple instrument types and trusted brands. Gauge types include bore gauges, pin gauges, chamfer gauges, depth gauges, height gauges, snap gauges, internal groove bore gauges, rotary bore gauges, and Holtest interchangeable-head gauge sets. Brands represented include Insize, Mitutoyo, Barcor Gage, Meyer Gage, and Fowler. Each selected for accuracy, durability, and relevance to production and quality control environments across aerospace, automotive, medical device, and general precision machining.

A bore gauge is a precision instrument designed specifically to measure the internal diameter of bores, holes, and cylinders. While calipers and inside micrometers can measure internal dimensions, a properly configured bore gauge particularly a two-point or three-point contact type provides a faster, more repeatable result by self-centering in the bore without relying on operator technique to find the true diameter. For production environments where the same bore is measured repeatedly to tight tolerances, a bore gauge with carbide contacts paired with a dial indicator or digital readout delivers consistent, traceable results that handheld calipers cannot reliably match.

Insize offers an extensive bore gauge lineup in this collection, covering a wide range of bore diameters and measuring depths from small bores as compact as 0.18"–0.24" up to large-bore models reaching 11.0"–20.1" with measuring depths up to 120". All Insize 2435 Series bore gauges feature carbide contact points and anvils for long wear life and compatibility with dial indicators at 0.001", 0.0001", or 0.00005" graduation. Specialty variants include the 2433 Series internal groove bore gauge for measuring groove diameters and the 2921 rotary bore gauge designed for bores with restricted openings where a standard gauge cannot enter.

The Mitutoyo 511 Series is a traditional two-contact dial bore gauge that measures internal diameters by rocking the gauge to find the minimum reading, which corresponds to the true bore diameter. It is a proven workhorse for bore inspection in machining and quality labs. The Mitutoyo 468 Holtest uses a three-point interchangeable-head system that self-centers automatically in the bore producing a direct, self-centering measurement that requires less technique than two-point gauging and delivers faster, more consistent results in production environments. The 468's interchangeable head design also allows a single handle unit to cover multiple bore ranges simply by swapping heads, reducing the total investment needed for multi-diameter inspection programs.

Pin gauges also called plug gauges or pin gage sets are precision-ground cylindrical gauges used to verify the diameter of holes through direct insertion. They are the fastest, most reliable method for go/no-go hole size verification in production environments. Meyer Gage's Class X pin gauges are manufactured to tighter tolerances than Class Z, making them suitable for master calibration, reference standard use, and the most critical inspection applications where minimum measurement uncertainty is required. Class Z pin gauges are still high-precision instruments suitable for everyday production inspection, GO/NO-GO gauging, and standard quality control workflows where the extreme accuracy of Class X is not required. Both are available in Meyer Gage Set and Library configurations in this collection.

A chamfer gauge is a specialty instrument that measures the major (top) diameter of a chamfer, countersink, or tapered hole which is a dimension that cannot be measured directly with a standard caliper or micrometer. The Barcor Digital Electronic Chamfer Gauge uses a spring-loaded, precision-ground gaging plunger that seats directly in the chamfer or countersink, providing an instant digital reading without requiring a setting master or reference chart. Barcor chamfer gauges are available in angular ranges to accommodate different chamfer geometries, and the digital electronic models add SPC output capability for data-driven quality systems. They are widely used in aerospace and defense manufacturing where chamfer dimensions on fastener holes are a critical feature.

A snap gauge is a fixed or adjustable C-frame instrument used to rapidly verify the outside diameter of cylindrical parts such as shafts, pins, and turned components without performing a full micrometer measurement on every piece. The gauge has two contact anvils set to the go and no-go limits of the specified tolerance; a part either passes through the go gap or it doesn't, giving an immediate accept/reject decision without reading a numeric value. Snap gauges in this collection feature carbide anvils, controlled measuring force (1.35–1.8 lbf), and anvil flatness specifications to ensure consistent results across high-volume production runs. They are the standard tool for in-process diameter inspection on CNC lathes and cylindrical grinders.

The collection includes Insize digital depth gauges and height gauges with wireless data output for cable-free inspection workflows. The Insize 1147-700WL, for example, is a wireless digital depth gauge covering 0–700mm (0–28") with 0.01mm/0.0005" resolution, mounting holes for an extension base, and DIN862 compliance. Height gauges are used on surface plates to measure vertical dimensions, scribe layout lines, and check part height against tolerance. The Insize 1158-100 large range digital height gauge offers resolution down to 0.000005" (0.1µm) for high-precision lab applications. Both depth and height gauges support inch/metric conversion and automatic power-off for battery conservation.

Selecting the right gauge depends on the feature you are measuring and the environment in which you are working. Bore gauges (Insize 2435 Series, Mitutoyo 511, Mitutoyo 468 Holtest) are for internal diameters. Pin gauges (Meyer Gage Class X and Z) are for go/no-go hole verification and reference standards. Snap gauges are for fast external diameter inspection on production lines. Chamfer gauges (Barcor) are for chamfer and countersink major diameters. Depth gauges measure step and slot depths. Height gauges measure vertical part dimensions on a surface plate.
